The Importance of Building a List

If you really want to make money on the internet, the one thing that you must do is build a list.
Two Possibilities:
No. 1
Let's say you come across an excellent money making opportunity. You sign up and start advertising it. In your first month, and every moth after that, you recruit two people. You also start to help your recruits do some recruiting and begin to build your business. It turns out that only five percent of the people actually do anything. At the end of one year you have one active person in your downline.
O.K., let's say you are a super recruiter and you recruit five people a month. Still, only five percent do anything. At the end of one year you have three active recruits on your first level, and maybe one on your second. You work hard for five years and build an organization of eighteen to twenty people. In that time, you spent $100.00 a month on products, and another $100.00 a month advertising, for a total of $12,000. With your small, but solid, organization you are making anywere from $200.00 to $2,000 a month. Ninety five percent of the people that joined your organization didn't have you patience and work effort, so they quit.

There was another person who spent his time building a list. When he joined the same opportunity, he recruited 500 people his first month! He made anywhere between $5,000 and $50,000 his first month and he didn't have to advertise!!
Is that really possible?
What the second person did was spend his time building his list, not his opportunity. He had one thousand people in his list who knew him and trusted him, so when he told them about this great opportunity, 5,000 people decided to join.
Now keep in mind that these two situations are completly made up by me, but I think this gives you a good idea as to why list building is important.
Doing it the Hard Way
One way to develop a list is to set up your own Ezine or newsletter. If you can give away a product or service that people want, and can have them sign up for your Ezine or Newsletter when they receive your product or service, you have the beginnings of your list.
I'm happy to say that I did this by accident, so I know it works. As you will read in other areas of this website, I used to give away an email course called "How to Make $2,000 a Month by Reading E-Mail." After a few months of reading those emails myself, I soon found out that this probably could not happen. But that's beside the point. I talk about this in more detail elsewhere. What I'm trying to show you is that I had over 700 people sign up for this course within a few weeks, so without even knowing what I was doing I had started to build my list.
The idea of a good list is to have people that you can send an opportunity to and have some of them sign up. The problem with the list that I had developed was that the people were interested in making $2,000 a month reading email. They had no interest in anything else I told them about. I had a list, but it was a bad one.
